Obituary

Gregory William McCauley, of Pembroke Ontario died peacefully on May 16, 2020 at the Pembroke Regional Hospital at the age of 69 years.
Dear son of the late Gordon and Norma McCauley. Loving husband to Victoria McCauley and by first marriage the late Pam McCauley (nee Clouthier). Greg is loved and sadly missed by his daughters Jennifer McCauley, Candace McCauley, Meegan Reilly (Todd), Valerie Hyska (Steve) and Caren Burd. Lovingly adored by his nine grandchildren Amanda, Deanna, Katie, Jordan, Dustin, Jake, Zachary, Bradley and Jory. Greg will be missed by his many brothers and sisters, many nieces and nephews and his many friends.
Greg was well known for his boisterous support of the Montreal Canadians. He left a mark on many young lives as a hockey coach in Petawawa. Greg was affectionately known for his gift of gab to anyone and everyone he crossed paths with.
He will be fondly remembered for his generosity and kindness. The love for his family and friends knew no bounds.
Due to the constraints of Covid-19 regulations a private Family Service and Interment took place at St. Columba’s Cemetery, Pembroke on Tuesday May 19. A Celebration of Greg’s Life will take place when permissible and will be announced. In memory of Greg donations to the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation or the Renfrew County SPCA would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to the MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, Pembroke.

I was shocked to hear of Gregs passing as over the years people seem to lose touch with old friends. I've known Greg since high school when he was the handsome football player. He went on to marry Pam, my best friend. One fond memory I have is a visit with Pam and Greg when she was in remission. They were living near the Point ( Petawawa) and had a menagerie of animals from horses to hamsters. My 5 year old daughter Lisa was sitting on the floor between the kitchen and living room when in comes this Great Dane who decides he wants to sit on her lap. Lisa disappeared except for her arms and legs sticking out. It was hilarious and we all had a great laugh, including Lisa. Well I hope this little memory puts a smile on your faces. God bless and take care.

Jeff and I were very saddened to hear of Greg's passing. Of course Jeff will remember him fondly as a hockey coach and I will remember him as just a kind man with such a big heart. He was truly a gentle man who loved his family immensely. May this bring you all comfort during this very difficult time. Know that we are grieving with you all.
God Bless
Trudy and Jeff

Deepest condolences to The McCauley Family. I knew Greg from when he coached Valley Truck & Spring, but more with his time with our Petawawa Chiefs Hockey team where he coached as well. He was always a treat to have around, full of jokes and stories, a constant source of entertainment in the dressing room, and in the kitchen at our tournament with his assistant cooks Jaques and his best friend Eddy. He will be missed.

I did not know Greg all that well but got to know him a bit when he was “Coach” for the Petawawa Chiefs of which my husband Wayne was (and still is) a member. He certainly did not forget who you were after you met him. I would periodically run into him at the grocery store. He was always happy and smiling and would stop to say a few words or joke a bit. He did not know me well either but knew exactly who I was and as we chatted or joked a bit it was like we were old friends. You made an instant friend after meeting Greg... no matter how big the encounter. He was just a warm, fun-loving person of which the world needs more of. May he Rest In Peace. Heartfelt sympathy to his family (especially Megan...sending you a special hug) Karen & Wayne Dennique
