Dad was always there when it mattered most. He would offer advice and sometimes he wouldn't say anything at all but you knew he was a presence in everyone's life. My son Thomas is so much like Dad - quiet and pensive yet thoughtful and speaks up when he feels there is an injustice. I look at him now in a different way, a living legacy to Dad, just like all of his grandchildren.

What I will remember most about Dad is his dedication to education. With us girls when ever we didn't know a word it was always "look in the dictionary!" Even when he hit his thumb with a hammer and said son of a biscuit box...funny we couldn't find out what that meant until much older. He had a way to change words like salt and pepper was palt and sepper...milk was moo juice. We woke up to classical music almost every weekend and will just miss him so much. Dad's motto was "Don't let the bastards win!" It was perfect.
