Peacefully at Marianhill with his loving family by his side at the age of 93.
Beloved husband of Agnes ter Huurne (nee Vossebeld) and cherished father of John (Catherine), Pauline, Mary, Marlene, and Darlene (late David Tibbs). Loving Opa to Anthony (Shannon), Mary Beth, Sarah, Paula, and Emma ter Huurne, Courtney and Dylan Henderson, Annelise (Ryan) McNeely, Alison (MJ) Gareau, Jack (Lauren) Oattes and Emily Tibbs; and his great-grandchildren Jaimie Francoeur, Ivy, Molly, and Donovan McNeely, and Duncan Gareau. Tony was the son of the late Johan Karel and Aleida ter Huurne (nee Grobbink); survived by his sisters Marietje Lansink (late Gerrit) and Fien Kleinsman (late Henk), both of New Zealand; predeceased by brothers Hendrik (late Bernarda), Johan (late Truus) and Herman (late Rikki) and sister Riek Vossebeld (late Jan); treasured Oom Tony to his nieces and nephews in Holland and New Zealand.
Tony was born and raised in Holland and immigrated to Canada in 1952. Married Agnes, the love of his life, in 1953. Tony was a hardworking, talented carpenter and a founding executive member of the Dutch Canadian Club. Tony will be missed dearly and remembered fondly for his kindness, adventurous spirit, sense of humour, and the love he had for his family. Friends are invited to share their memories of Tony with his family during visitation at Murphy’s Funeral Home (296 Isabella St.), on Sunday, March 15, 2020 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and 7:00pm to 9:00pm. Tony’s life will be celebrated with a Funeral Mass at The Church of the Most Holy Name of Jesus (284 Trafalgar Rd., Pembroke) on Monday, March 16, 2020 at 1:00pm. Interment in St. Columba’s Cemetery. In memory of Tony, donations to the Dementia Society of Ottawa and Renfrew County would be appreciated. A sincere thank you to the staff of Marianhill for all the kindness and care given to Tony this past year.
