I am shocked and a loss of words. Roy was an amazing, funny, happy, caring man. I met him at GT and we clicked right away. Our humour matched and we talked about everything, he always wanted updates about my life and showed an interest in helping and sharing opinions on how to improve and move forward in my life. I will never forget his laugh, smile or even his comments. I’ll miss him dearly! He made a difference in my life and made me enjoy coming to work everyday. He’ll be greatly missed. Xox love you Roy RIP

My condolences to Sandra and the Resmer family. I have been a friend of Roy’s for over 35 years. We met in Thunder Bay and remained friends ever since. He was a licenced chef fond of telling the story of his flying in at night for an interview and seeing all the bright lights of the waterfront hotels. Next morning, he quickly agreed to the job offer then took a bus to his hotel, only to see along the way that the bright lights were actually grain elevators Roy stayed in Thunder Bay anyway and made many friends, some of who remained lifelong friends, like me, Chris April and Attilio. Roy was an outgoing person and friendly, supportive and caring. He made our life in the north a little more bearable. He also taught me to cook, including food preparation in a professional way. I have kept these skills all my later life Roy was intellectually inquisitive and had an interest in art. Conversations with him were stimulating and interesting. He even had ne develop a taste for scotch, which is another lifelong interest I have! After Roy left Thunder Bay to return to Ottawa our little group slowly moved away (mostly to Toronto), but we all kept in touch and got together whenever we could. For the next 33 years Roy moved to northern Alberta then back to Ottawa, then to northern Manitoba then back to Ottawa. When living in Ottawa Roy would visit us in Toronto and it was always a wonderful reunion getting us all together. He would cook of course, and the meals were delicious. Nothing follows a good meal better that scotch, which got the conversation flowing well into the night. We would always look forward to his visits and remember the old days when we all spent time together in Thunder Bay and where we had come since. I will miss Roy as a friend, mentor and wonderful human being. He may no longer be on earth but he lives in our hearts and minds, forever! Steve Haney
